Her efforts contributed to in helping the U.S. team win consecutive Women's World Cup championships in the years 2015 and 2019. The team was awarded cocaptain status in 2018. At the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo Japan postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 virus. Rapinoe scored two goals in the bronze medal match as her team from the United States defeated Australia by a total of 4-3.
